About PUMATIY
Pumatiy is more than chocolate: it is land, memory, and community.

Pumatiy is a family-owned chocolate company deeply rooted in the Peruvian jungle. Founded in 1996 by Efraín Puma Chambi in the native community of Kapashiari, located in Koribeni, Echarati District, La Convención Province – Cusco, the brand was born from a dream to honor and revive Chuncho cacao — one of the oldest and most aromatic cacao varieties in the world.
From the beginning, Pumatiy has worked hand in hand with the Matsigenka farming families of Koribeni, a community of over 175 families who live from subsistence agriculture, fishing, and hunting. For them, cacao is more than a crop — it is culture, history, and livelihood.
The Chuncho cacao grown in this region is prized for its exceptional flavor profile with fruity and floral notes. Traditionally used in sacred rituals, today it is the foundation of fine chocolates that have earned national and international awards, including medals at the 8th Peruvian National Chocolate Competition in 2023.
Beyond chocolate, Pumatiy pays tribute to the cultural legacy of its community through its packaging, designs, and storytelling — all inspired by the ancestral aesthetics and traditions of the Matsigenka people.
